Pain is Felt Through Skin An-Nisa

Quran 4:56 states: 'As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the punishment.' The verse specifies that the purpose of replacing the skin is to restore the ability to feel pain, implying pain sensation resides in the skin itself. Modern neuroscience confirms that nociceptors (pain receptors) are densely concentrated in the dermal and epidermal skin layers. Deep internal muscles and organs have far fewer. Skin that is completely burned and destroyed would eliminate these pain receptors, while regenerated skin restores them, a physiological fact the verse implies with precision.
